Public Interest

This section is dedicated to educating the public on the various aspects of Optometry. There are two sub-sections whereby the profession of Optometry and common eye problems will be discussed respectively.

Optometry
In this section, the roles of Optometrists, Opticians and Ophthalmologists are explained. This is due to the often confusion between these professions. The common eye examinations that are performed by Optometrists are also listed in Optometric Eye Examination. Lastly, a list of SOA's member Optometrists is available for your reference.

Common Eye Problems
Refractive errors are the common eye problems diagnosed by Optometrists in Singapore, the most common being myopia. The mechanisms of refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia are illustrated by animations in this section. This section also further explains amblyopia (lazy eyes) and dry eyes.
